SEAT announces electric car aspirations

Spanish car maker SEAT has announced its intention to join the highly-competitive green car market.

The firm has cottoned on to the fact that drivers are becoming increasingly aware of their carbon footprints.

And while the likes of Toyota have enjoyed early success with its hybrid models, SEAT has bided its time.

However, the firm, which has enjoyed record sales this year, is now looking to expand its offerings to cater to the needs of eco-conscious drivers.

Indeed, by 2015 the company hopes to have an Altea Electric Ecomotive and a plug-in hybrid SEAT Leon in production.

SEAT President James Muir explained: "Customers demand a more sustainable form of mobility, but their needs are diverse.

"Therefore, we believe that a parallel strategy of developing two different technologies will put SEAT in the best position to meet their needs."

Sales figures for October showed that SEAT had sold 1,300 more used cars than by the same point in 2010.
