Hyundai's new compact SUV, the all-new Tucson, was awarded a five-star Euro NCAP rating, the maximum available. The Korean firm believes that this underlines their approach towards sharing technology and safety features across its vehicle range.
Thomas Schmid, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: "The all-new Tucson introduces a wide array of new safety technologies, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, at an accessible price. The five-star rating from Euro NCAP is further evidence that quality and safety are built into our new cars."
The Tucson's successful NCAP test results demonstrates the SUV's standing as one of the safest vehicles in its segment, with the equipping of new active and passive safety features.
Although Euro NCAP only took the car's Lane Keeping Assist System and the Speed Limit Information Function into consideration, the Tucson boasts a collection of other safety features to help avoid and minimise accidents.
These include the Autonomous Emergency Braking system, which alerts the driver when an emergency situation arises unexpectedly, autonomously braking if required. The safety package also boasts the Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detector and Vehicle Stability Management systems.
To increase pedestrian safety, the new Tucson is specified as standard with an Active Hood System, which raises the car's bonnet to soften the impact in a frontal pedestrian collision. Additionally, the new body shell now contains 30 per cent more advanced high strength steel, enhancing structural rigidity in the event of an impact, and dissipating collision shock energy. This was key to its impressive Euro NCAP test result.
