The partnership sees a new and exciting activation with the beloved, historical theatre, with various branding opportunities helping us to form a closer connection with the city of Newcastle.

Bristol Street Motors has announced a new partnership addition to its portfolio – the iconic Newcastle Theatre Royal.

The partnership deal comes after the brand’s first entertainment partnership with the Co-op Live arena set to open in Manchester in 2023, expanding the branch’s reach through the entertainment sector.

Read on for all you need to know about our latest partnership.

About Newcastle Theatre Royal

This historical venue was first granted royal licensing by King George III in 1788, opening on Drury Lane.

In 1837, the Theatre later moved to Grey Street into a flagship building which was part of a city plan developed by Grainger and Dobson.

Featuring an impressive architectural structure, it was given a grand auditorium in 1901 which was the work of architect Frank Matcham. This came after a fire destroyed part of the original interior, though this wouldn’t be enough to hold the theatre back from growing in popularity.

Over its long history, the theatre has welcomed some famous names, including Henry Irving, Laurence Olivier, Judy Dench, and even some Hollywood names such as Orson Welles, Charlton Heston, and Jack Lemmon.

The theatre has also seen several renovations over its time, all with the aim of preserving its magnificent history. These include a six-month renovation in 2011 to regain the iconic former Edwardian design known and loved by the theatre back in its heyday.

This included reprinted wallpapers, reinstated tilework, and original-patterned carpets as well as period light fittings and brassware.

It was also given new seating throughout to improve comfort, all whilst retaining classic, traditional design at the centre.

The Grey Street portico was cleaned and renovated in order to preserve its architectural structure and the dressing rooms backstage were also given a makeover.
