After three draws and a loss in the previous four games, the Bristol Street Motors-backed side welcomed their Welsh visitors to Turf Moor looking to cement their position inside the the play-off positions ahead of the second international break of the campaign.
Both sides created chances in the opening half, with Zian Flemming going close for Burnley with a header from a Lucas Pires corner than flashed just wide of the post.
At the other end, Zan Vipotnik managed to beat James Trafford with an angled drive but the ball could only hit the side netting before Jaiden Anthony and Luca Koleosho went close – the latter forcing a smart save from former Burnley man Lawrence Vigouroux in the Swansea goal.
Both sides continued to spurn half chances after the break, with Swansea going close late on when a header from Lee Cullen was cleared off the line by Maxime Esteve having managed to beat Trafford.
Florian Bianchini fired wide for the visitors before Vigouroux somehow managed to keep out a header from CJ Egan-Riley with a reflex save as the game seemed set to end in a draw.
However, deep into stoppage time, the referee deemed that Matt Grimes had handled the ball in the box and gave Burnley the chance to win the game from the spot, with Jay Rodriguez putting the ball into the corner to wrap up the points.
It means Burnley sit fourth in the standings going into the international break, with an away trip to Bristol City on 23 November being the first game back.
