Burnley Held To Derby County Draw

Burnley missed the chance to move into the automatic promotion slots in the EFL Championship after being held to a goalless draw at home to Derby County.

The Bristol Street Motors-backed side was looking to bounce back to winning ways after a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in the previous game but came up against resolute visitors who would spend much of the match with their backs to the wall.

The Clarets created the better chances in the opening half, with Josh Brownhill seeing a curling effort from outside the box turned around the post by a back-peddling Jacob Zetterstrom in the Derby goal.

Derby offered little going forwards in the first half but had a chance to go ahead after the break, with Burnley having spurned further chances of their own.

A pass to Jerry Yates saw him one-on-one with James Trafford and the Burnley ‘keeper was able to make himself big to block the shot, before Yates could only find the side-netting from the rebound.

Burnley spurned a good chance when Luca Koleosho burst forwards only to be denied by an on-rushing Zetterstrom before Liam Thompson and Marcus Harness went close late on for the visitors.

The point leaves Burnley still sitting in third in the standings ahead of the weekend trip to Norwich City.
