The CUPRA Leon won the ‘Small and Compact Cars’ category, the CUPRA Born took top spot in the ‘Small and Compact Electric Cars’ category and the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 came first in the “SUV” category.
The CUPRA Leon stormed to success in its heavily contended Small and Compact Car category. Setting new standards across its segment, the Leon has a menacing design, latest generation technology and a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Success in this category will mean a lot to the team at CUPRA, as the Born is their first all-electric model. Seen as an unconventional challenger in this group, instantaneous performance and emotional design mean the Born is shifting the market, signifying a new era for electric motoring.
Dr Werner Tietz, Vice-President of R and D at CUPRA said: “We believe electric vehicles shouldn’t be boring. For this reason, we’ve developed a car with a strong CUPRA character that proves that electrification and performance are a perfect match.”
The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 fought off tough competition in its category, coming first out of a total of 17 cars. The final stage involved the Formentor being put through its paces on the Lausitzring circuit in Germany, where the most powerful CUPRA of all time had its chance to shine. Its 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine with 390PS of power and a maximum torque of 480Nm helped steer it to victory. The design, interior, safety and technical features also impressed the judging panel, helping to bring the award home for CUPRA.
