Heading to the beach to catch some rays this weekend? Citroen has put together a handy list of the top EV-friendly beaches for this summer.
As temperatures are on the rise, our plans for the summer are also increasing as we all aim to make the most of the sunshine. Which can be somewhat rare for those of us in the UK!
But heading to the beach can also create range anxiety, along with the toll that air conditioning can have on EV batteries. Thankfully for seaside lovers, French manufacturer Citroen has put together a list of England’s top EV friendly beaches to plan your next trip, without the worry of range anxiety.
The new study was created by comparing the distance from the UK’s favourite beaches on TripAdvisor, to the most popular cities which can be specifically reached using the Citroen e-C4’s 219-mile WLTP range.
Roker and Seaburn Beaches, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
North East residents living in the Tyne and Wear region will be pleased to know that Roker and Seaburn beaches come out on top at number one. The vast stretch of sandy beach is accessible from eight top cities with the Citroen‘s 219-mile range, so for EV owners with a similar range vehicle, you can experience it for yourself. The local area offers 13 public charging points with speeds of up to 50kW for efficient charging, so you can power up for the journey home.
Brighton Beach, East Sussex
For those living in the relatively beach-less London, thankfully the seaside shore of Brighton beach at number two is nearby at 53 miles away from the capital. Brighton beach makes a fantastic coastal visit for EV drivers, offering over 120 public charging points within just two miles, with plenty of fast chargers (between 7-22kW) and four rapid chargers (25kW+). So, if you ever feel like getting away from the city, fresh sea air and sandy walks await you.
Bournemouth Beach, Dorset
Coming in at third position is Bournemouth beach, just a drive away from six cities with five rapid chargers available for visitors travelling in their EV. Using these 100kW chargers can offer 0-80% charging for your vehicle in as little as 30 minutes, so not to worry if it’s just a short stay, while those who wish to spend the day and soak up the sun can charge their vehicle using a 7kW charger which should take about 7.5 hours.
Hunmanby Gap, North Yorkshire
Easily accessible from eight cities within the e-C4’s 219-mile range, Hunmanby Gap is at number four for those looking for an escape to the seaside. With only one public charger within two miles, it’s best to plan your journey in advance to avoid disappointment.
Fistral Beach, Newquay, Cornwall
The Southern coast of Cornwall is renowned for its serene seaside views. Newquay’s Fistral Beach is no exception, ranking fifth on the list though it is only accessible from one city within the e-C4’s 219-mile range. There are six public chargers available within two miles for charging your EV during your visit, with five of these offering a fast 7-22kW charging capacity, giving you plenty of time to take in those coastal views.
Weymouth Beach, Dorset
Weymouth Beach takes the stage at number six with 3 EV charging points available for your visit. It’s accessible from six major cities and with two fast chargers and one rapid charger, you can relax on the beach while topping up your tan and your battery for the journey home. Coming in for joint 6th is also Whitby Beach which makes for a popular seaside escape in Yorkshire, with Whitby being accessible from eight major cities.
Sandbanks Beach, Poole, Dorset
Sandbanks Beach in Dorset joins the list at number eight making another great visit, accessible from six major cities in an electric vehicle with a range of around 219 miles like the Citroen e-C4. Also coming in at joint 8th according to TripAdvisor is Porthminster Beach, St Ives, Cornwall, another seaside beauty which is accessible from one major city in the UK and offers 3 fast public chargers within two miles.
Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe, Devon
Finally, why not visit the sandy Tunnels Beaches in Devon in your EV, which is accessible from three major UK cities? With a fascinating history going back to the 1820s, this will make a great visit for all the ages with lots to explore during your visit.
Eurig Druce, Citroen UK’s Managing Director, said:
“The summer getaways to the beaches are now underway, and our research shows some of England’s best seaside locations can easily be reached on a single charge using electric cars like Citroen e-C4.
Our research also shows how many of the best beaches in the country are close to public charging stations, making the journey even easier in an electric vehicle.”
Fancy a road trip? With your EV, you could enjoy the full 400-mile trip from Birmingham to Roker and Seaburn Beaches for less than £30 with the help of lower running costs - just one of many benefits afforded to those who drive an electric vehicle.
