Ford has sponsored three 'Formula Student' teams who took part in this weekend's racing at Silverstone.
The British engineering giant had previously announced that they would be sponsoring the teams all three of which are from Ford Scholar Universities. The scholarship was established in 2011 to celebrate 100 years of Ford. Its aim is to help develop the UK's next generation of student engineers, scientists and innovators.
Ford sponsored teams from Bath and Loughborough Universities and Imperial College London, and saw all three teams finish in 4th, 13th and 65th places respectively.
Formula Student is the world's largest student motorsport event, hosting over 3000 students in 135 teams from 28 different countries at Silverstone racing track in Northamptonshire.
The students are challenged to design, build and race a single-seat racing car in under a year. They are then required to give a presentation on the costs of building the car, in order to prove its financial viability. The car is then put through several static and dynamic tests designed to scrutinise the cars speed, braking and aerodynamics.
Kate James, second year mechanical engineering student at Loughborough University and head of operations for their Formula Student team, commented: "Being part of such an energized Formula Student team at Loughborough has not only allowed me to be involved in the process from the concept stage to final product, but has also inspired and equipped me with valuable experience to take into my industrial placement and future engineering career."
