The milestone comes after just 57 years of the Hyundai Motor Group, making it one of the fastest achieved in automotive history.
Hyundai has ended the month on an unforgettable note, after celebrating 100 million units produced globally.
The milestone was commemorated with a special handover ceremony at the Ulsan Plant in Korea. Read on for the full story.
At the ceremony, an IONIQ 5 – the company’s 100 millionth and first vehicle – rolled off the final inspection line directly to the customer.
There was also a celebratory display commemorating the ‘100 million and 1’, celebrating the brand’s successful future ahead.
The Ulsan Plant was a fitting choice for the ceremony. Operating since 1968, the plant is known as ‘the birthplace of the development of the Korean automobile industry’. It produced Korea’s first mass-produced model, the Pony, in 1975.
Currently, the plant is in the process of establishing its own dedicated electric vehicle (EV) facility. Helping the Hyundai brand keep up with rapidly growing demand for EVs and more sustainable motoring.
Hyundai’s historic achievement follows the brand’s impressive growth. From launching their premium brand Genesis and high-performance brand N, to an efficient EV line-up.
Last year, the brand also introduced the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS). This smart urban mobility hub uses the latest manufacturing platforms and advanced technologies. From artificial intelligence (AI) to robots and more.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said:

Dong Seock Lee, President and Head of Domestic Productions at Hyundai Motor Company, also commented:
“Each and every employee at Hyundai Motor has contributed to the accumulation of 100 million units through their hard work and dedication. This auspicious occasion is just the first step toward the future era of electrification that Hyundai Motor will lead.”
