Mazda has revealed the all-new Mazda2, following the production launch of the compact supermini at the Hofu plant south-east of Hiroshima.
The Mazda2 is the fourth member of Mazda's current model generation, featuring the full range of ultra-efficient SKYACTIV Technology and the manufacturer's striking 'KODO Soul of Motion' design.
Combining winning performance, safety and fuel economy figures with driver satisfaction, the all-new Mazda2 is expected to raise the bar in the crucial B segment and follow in the footsteps of its larger siblings the Mazda CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3 when it goes on sale in Japan in the autumn.
The latest interpretation of the supermini will premiere in Europe with a brand new small displacement clean diesel engine, the SKYACTIV-D 1.5. Together with SKYACTIV body, chassis, and manual and automatic transmissions, it also receives the carmaker's innovative MZD Connect in-car connectivity system, a range of i-ACTIVSENSE active safety technology and a refined interior.
More than 2.4 million Mazda2s have been sold globally since it was first launched in 1996 and the new model is set to push those figures even higher.
