A new phone app has been created to provide drivers with a range of useful tyre safety tips and advice whilst on the move.
The Tyre Safety Companion is available to download free on Apple or Google Play stores and gives a number of hints, practical suggestions and reminders regarding tyre safety. It offers advice on what to do in the event of a puncture at the side of the road and how to check your tyre pressure.
Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, said: "October's Tyre Safety month is coming to an end, but our new app ensures drivers can easily access a wealth of tyre-related information, no matter what time of the year it is."
The Tyre Safety Companion has been devised as part of TyreSafe's on-going efforts to reduce the tyre related casualties that occur on the UK's roads.
A recent survey carried out by the organisation found that an amazing 19 per cent of drivers admitted that they had never checked their tyre tread depth.
People driving on tyres that don't meet the minimum tread depth requirements can be fined up to £2,500 and have their licence endorsed with three points for each illegal tyre. In 2013, nearly 1,000 casualties were caused as a result of driving on illegal, defective or under-inflated tyres.
Jackson continued: "Answers to some of the most common questions we're asked by drivers are now available within this app. Furthermore, you'll also be able to locate your nearest TyreSafe member who will be able to provide you with even more assistance, and we'll even send you timely reminders designed to help prolong the life of your tyres and maximise your safety on the road."
