The mid-size SUV received high praise in the Auto Express magazine, for its new powertrain and value for money.
The New Nissan Qashqai has steadily built up a stack of award wins over recent years. From being named the UK’s most reliable car by consumer group Which? in 2023 to the UK’s best-selling new car in 2022.
This year, its status as a motoring hero for many has been confirmed, after it came out on top in the Auto Express Road Test against the Kia Sportage. Read on for the full story.
As a leading automotive reviewer, Auto Express regularly conducts road tests, with the help of their in-house experts. These compare everything from technology and on-the-road performance to ownership and practicality.
They also offer used car reviews, group tests and video reviews, helping motorists to make an informed choice with their next vehicle.
In the road test comparing the Nissan Qashqai and the Kia Sportage, it was the Qashqai that came out on top. Let’s find out how!
Equipped with Nissan’s innovative e-POWER technology, the New Nissan Qashqai is in its most efficient form yet. This combines a petrol engine along with a 2.1kWh electric battery and a 187bhp electric motor, where the engine acts as a generator.
Instead of powering the wheels of the car, the engine’s role is to send power to the electric battery and motor. This means the New Nissan Qashqai is always electrically driven, though without the need for plug-in charging.
The benefit is that drivers get to enjoy all the benefits of an electric vehicle, yet with traditional refuelling for ease. Like other hybrids, the New Nissan Qashqai can also drive small distances in EV mode, offering drivers a more flexible experience.
The ‘e-pedal’ button on the centre console, when used, helps to maximise the impacts of regenerative braking. Keeping the battery topped up along the go, hence there’s no need to plug in.
Though it wasn’t just the efficient self-charging hybrid powertrain that made the Qashqai such a winner. Inside, the New Nissan Qashqai has been given some exciting upgrades to make it even more enjoyable to own.
From an Alcantara trim on the dash to an adjusted driver position and a clean, connected infotainment system. The new N-Design trim boats a panoramic sunroof to lighten the cabin, while ambient interior lighting aids relaxation.
To top it all off, the New Nissan Qashqai is relatively affordable given its advanced features. With prices starting from £39,620, the New Nissan Qashqai offers great value for money, packed with the latest technology and style. Another thing that impressed Auto Express judges in the road test.
