Northampton Town Duo Enjoy BTCC Experience with Bristol Street Motors

A new initiative saw the worlds of football and motorsport collide at Silverstone, with guests from Northampton Town FC invited along to support Team Bristol Street Motors in the penultimate weekend of competition in the British Touring Car Championship.

Award-winning automotive retailer Bristol Street Motors is currently chasing title glory in Britain’s premier racing series in the fourth season of a hugely successful relationship with the EXCELR8 team, whilst action has now kicked off in the 2024/25 Bristol Street Motors Trophy in year two of the high-profile partnership in place with the EFL.

In order to shine a light on the different partnerships and provide an insight into an alternative sporting environment, Bristol Street Motors reached out to EFL League One side Northampton Town with the offer of two tickets for race day at Silverstone, with Head of Recruitment Alex Latimer and Head of Goalkeeping James Alger both braving the weather conditions to attend the event.

The pair were able to see the inner workings of the team at close quarters with a tour of the Team Bristol Street Motors garage, and stepped out onto the famous Silverstone tarmac for a grid walk ahead of race two.

Alex and James were then able to cheer the team on from the Silverstone commentary box, whilst a visit to the Bristol Street Motors Fanzone allowed them to meet ‘Brummie’ – the radio controlled car that carried the match ball onto the Wembley pitch ahead of last season’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy Final between Peterborough United and Wycombe Wanderers.

Alex Latimer said: “The weekend at Silverstone was absolutely brilliant, and a huge thank you has to go to Bristol Street Motors for making it possible. It was a great experience to be able to explore a different sport, and it was particularly interesting to see how the worlds of football and motorsport compare.

“People don’t always appreciate how much work goes on behind the scenes to allow us as a Club to challenge in a competition like the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, and the same is true in motorsport. I know that before the weekend, I certainly didn’t appreciate how much effort it takes for a race team to be successful.

“Everyone within the Team has a job to do, and seeing all of the intricate work that resulted in two wins across the weekend at close quarters was fascinating.”

The initiative will continue for the BTCC season finale at Brands Hatch next month when Team Bristol Street Motors welcomes guests from League Two side Bromley FC to cheer on driver Tom Ingram when he looks to wrap up the BTCC title for a second time.

That race meeting on the first weekend in October takes place a handful of days before Northampton Town kicks off its assault on the 2024/25 Bristol Street Motors Trophy with a trip to Notts County.
