The new EV brings back the iconic Renault 4 name in modern form, with a new design and 100% electric powertrain.
Earlier this month, Renault teased us all with a sneak peek of the new Renault 4 E-Tech. Now, we can finally put a face to the name, after the new EV was revealed in full at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
So, what we can expect from the new crossover SUV?
Reviving an old name, the Renault 4 E-Tech marks the rebirth of the Renault 4 – originally launched in 1961.
Although designed for the modern era, the new Renault 4 E-Tech pays homage to the previous model through several design features.
The front grille, a single piece measuring 1.45m, is inspired by the original model – lending a unique touch. Accompanying this is an illuminated surround that frames the new Renault logo.
The original Renault 4’s three-part lights are also paid tribute at the rear, with more modern lines and a new LED light signature.
Other design cues taken from the former model include the bonnet lines, rear quarter window, and three sculpted door lines. These hark back to the plastic protectors of the Renault 4.
Roof bars now adorn the distinctive roof, with a range of new colours celebrating its rebirth. There’s Hauts-de-France Green – an exclusive colour, along with six other elegant hues.
These include Glacier White, Urban Grey, Diamond Black, Carmine Red, Terracotta Brown, and Cloud Blue. Two-tone options will also be available.
Inside, the new Renault 4 E-Tech is more spacious and welcoming than before. Its extended 2.62m wheelbase and 4.14m length make for a roomier, lounge-style interior for all passengers to enjoy.
Rear seat occupants are given 16.4m of knee room, while up to 85.3m of headroom is rare to find within the B-segment.
As for luggage space, the Renault 4 E-Tech offers plenty with 420 litres as standard. This is accessed via a power tailgate, and offers four lashing hooks, two bag hooks, and rubber bands to help secure luggage.
Under the floor, there’s a 35-litre storage compartment to store the charging cable tidily. Boot space can be further extended with the folding rear bench seat.
Sustainably built, the new Renault 4 E-Tech’s seat fabric is made from 100% recycled fibres (Techno and Iconic trims). In fact, at the end of its life cycle, Renault claims the new EV will be about 88.6% recyclable overall, leaving a small carbon footprint.
Life gets busy, and it’s important to be able to stay connected on the road. With the new Renault 4 E-Tech, it’s never been easier.
The front cabin is clean and contemporary, with dual horizontal touchscreens. The 10” central multimedia screen features the OpenR link system with Google services built-in.
Meanwhile, there’s Renault’s new virtual assistant Reno – also featured in the new Renault 5 E-Tech. The voice-activated assistant can answer questions and assist with tasks like scheduling charging.
When it comes to the drive itself, the Renault 4 E-Tech is all about ease and efficiency. Featuring Renault’s new One Pedal, this uses regenerative braking to enable smoother deceleration.
Instead of having to apply the brake, the driver simply lifts off the accelerator pedal to come to a stop.
Safety is also well taken care of with a range of advanced driver assistance features. These include Rear Occupant Safe Exit Alert, Active Driver Assist and more – many of which are rarely included in this segment.
My Safety Shield allows the driver to customise safety settings and activate their preferred driving aids. While hands-free parking makes the new Renault 4 E-Tech easy to park in even the busiest or tightest areas.
The new Renault 4 E-Tech will offer a choice of powertrains to motorists, upon its release in mid-2025.
These are either a 52kWh battery with a 150hp motor and 250-mile range or a 40kWh battery with a 120hp motor and up to 186 miles (WLTP) range.
Both powertrains feature a heat pump to help maximise efficiency. Bidirectional charging with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology helps charge other devices. Or, send surplus energy back to the grid.
Speaking of charging, the Renault 4 E-Tech can be charged from 15-80% in just 30 minutes, with the 100kW DC charger supplied. It can also be charged using an 11kW AC charger from 10-100% in 4 hours and 30 minutes – ideal for overnight charging.
