This year marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 and next month will see the motor celebrated at the UK's most iconic racetrack.
The Silverstone Classic, which takes place between July 20th and July 22nd, will pay homage to the winged wonder car.
Event director Nick Wigely said that while the car is already a key part of British motoring history, the event will remind some and introduce others to its brilliance.
"The RS500 is already part of motorsport folklore and we are thrilled to have so many participating at this year's classic," he said.
"Watching the mighty Cossies racing against the more modern generation of Super Tourers is going to be every bit as intriguing as spectacular."
Mr Wigely added that while the newer cars may well be more advanced than their older counterparts in terms of technology, the rear-wheel-drive and massive turbos on the "dramatic RS500s" are sure to be huge crowds pleasers.”
The two races are not the only events set to mark the occasion however, as the Silverstone Classic will also feature a large display dedicated to both the competition and showroom editions if the car.
With its distinctive "whale tail" spoiler and top speeds in excess of 150mph, the Sierra RS500 was the ultimate road-going car for UK race fans.
It gave many a supercar a run for its money and as it was based on what was a popular family hatchback, quickly became one of the most sought-after cars of the late 1980s.
The RS Owners Club, which was spawned due to the popularity of the motor, will also be present at the event and is due to put together a large collection of more than 40 road and racing RS500s for display over the entire weekend.
