Mazda is set to add some luxury to its 6 range by introducing a two-door Coup to rival BMW's 4 Series.
The Japanese brand is keen to move its already successful 6 upmarket, after positive sales of its saloon and estate. Mazda could soon become a rival to German brands if it breaks through into the luxury coup category.
According to Auto Express sources, the new version of the 6 could well be released in 2016 as it looks to add more to its main line-up currently made up of the new 2 supermini, 3 hatch, standard 6 and the CX-3 crossover. More vehicles are to be revealed at the LA Motor Show in November.
Mazda has already dabbled in sporty-looking cars with its Shinari Concept, which debuted the brand's current Kodo design language. Although different to the previous four-door car, the two-door will likely have many similarities.
It will resemble its current estate and saloon models, but with a lower bonnet line and more distinctive bumper styling to give a snazzier look.
In contrast to its Saloon model, the Coup will have a lower, squatter stance - not too different from the BMW 4 series. Adding to its sporty exterior, the 6 will likely have a sleeker roofline that falls to a stubby rear.
Moving away from the company's middle ground, the Coup should do a good job of up-marketing the brand and should go a long way in satisfying performance fans.
