The Best Bits Of Clarkson, Hammond And May

September 13 2024 is something of an end of an era for motoring fans, with The Grand Tour: One For The Road on Amazon Prime marking the final outing as a trio for Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

The trio came together back in 2003 after the revival of the BBC show Top Gear twelve months earlier by Clarkson and Andy Wilman.

The initial series had seen Clarkson joined by Hammond and Jason Dawe for the original run of ten episodes before Dawe was then replaced by May for series two.

The trio would go on to present the show through to the end of Series 22, covering a total of 167 episodes before Clarkson’s departure from the BBC in 2015 was followed by Hammond, May and Wilman also following suit.

The trio would then move to Amazon Prime to present The Grand Tour, with One For The Road being the 46th and final appearance on the streaming platform.

There are way more than we could possibly publish here, but we've still collated some of our top moments from the past twenty years...

KILLING A TOYOTA

Series three saw the trio attempt to kill a Toyota Hilux. Having tried running into a tree, hitting it with a wrecking ball and even letting it be taken out to sea, the final attempt saw the pick up hoisted to the top of a tower block ready for demolition. Surely that would be enough to finish it off...

BRITISH LEYLAND CHALLENGE

A step back in time saw the trio tasked with acquiring a car from the British Leyland family, with Clarkson going for a Rover SD1, Hammond picking up a Triumph Dolomite and May being derided by the other two for his choice of an Austin Princess. Would they be up the challenges ahead?

MOTORHOME RACING

In Series 10, Hammond came up with the bright idea of a new form of motorsport as he went motorhome racing at Essex Raceway alongside May and a number of BTCC stars – including (a much younger) Team Bristol Street Motors racer Tom Chilton.

FATHER'S DAY FORDS

Daft challenges have been commonplace during the Clarkson, Hammond and May era, but there was also a serious side to the trio – as seen when they took a step back in time following the switch to Amazon to look at some very special Fords...

AIRBOURNE

When James May headed out for a ride with the late Ken Block, it set up one of the most iconic shots in series history...

NEW SURROUNDINGS

Following the end of the Top Gear era, the big budget move to Amazon Prime was much anticipated - and it kicked off with a bang...

THE SILVERSTONE 24 HOURS

Take a diesel BMW, three amateur drivers and one Stig and stick them into a 24 hour race around the iconic Silverstone circuit. Would they make it to the finish?

ICE ADVENTURES

A trip to Scandinavia provided the chance to for the trio to sample some ice driving. What could possibly go wrong?

THE STIG IS REVEALED

As well as Clarkson, Hammond and May themselves, a major figure from the past 20 years has been The Stig. Few knew his (or her) true identity, until one day in the studio...
