Five star top ratings have been awarded to Volvo's XC90 in an Euro NCAP assessment. The luxury crossover SUV stood out as the first car to achieve full points in Euro NCAP Autonomous Emergency Braking Car to Car rear-end tests.
The second generation of the XC90 was put through rigorous tests as part of the assessment, and achieved extremely highly in a number of them, including a score of 100% in the Safety Assist category.
The XC90's scores demonstrate the Swedish carmaker's dominance in the field of car safety, which is represented in the XC90 in the form of the pedestrian protection functionality, which is so advanced that independent safety regulators have yet to include it in their testing protocols.
Martin Magnusson, Principal Engineer at Volvo Car Group commented: "We are the first car manufacturer to surpass the criteria that Euro NCAP have applied to the AEB Interurban and City testing procedures. City Safety is one of the most advanced standard crash prevention offers you can find in a modern car. It addresses vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in certain situations, day and night."
Volvo Cars maintain its 'Vision 2020', of which the aim is to deliver cars so safe that no one is seriously injured or killed in them by the year 2020.
