Grizedale Forest, Cumbria

One of the best parts of the changing seasons is the changes going on around us. The air becomes crisper, and leaves start to turn a beautiful rusty hue. There's no better place to enjoy this than Grizedale Forest in Cumbria.

Lying in the heart of the Lake District World Heritage Site, there’s so much to see and do. Explore over 4,000 hectares of forest and woodland or discover sculptures by leading contemporary artists.

You can now also hire an all-terrain mobility scooter (Tramper) with a stunning five-mile route approved for use by the Tramper. If you do need to hire this, you’ll need to sign up as a member of Outdoor Mobility and book online ahead of your visit.

Fairfield Pumpkins, Yeovil

There’s nothing more autumnal than pumpkin picking! Fairfield Pumpkins sits on the edge of Yeovil and is a family-run farm shop and cafe. With over 40,000 pumpkins to choose from, you won’t be short on choice.

After you’ve picked your pumpkins, why not carve them ahead of the spooky season, or turn them into a delicious pie or soup to enjoy.

Any leftover pumpkins are incorporated into their cattle's winter diet to ensure that there's no waste. They are also a tasty treat enjoyed by their pigs and chickens.

Kelmarsh Hall, Northampton

Kelmarsh Hall is a stunning country house and gardens in the Northamptonshire countryside. This October, they’ll be hosting an Autumn Walk and Artisan Fair on Sunday 6th October from 11am – 3pm.

It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up unique pieces of artwork, homeware, candles, and jewellery from artisan sellers. If you like to plan ahead, it’s also a great chance to start your Christmas shopping!

During the event, you can enjoy also food stalls. As well as takeaway hot drinks from Sweet Peas Tearoom to keep you warm on your walk around the gardens.

Entrance is £10 per car and cash is preferred – dogs are also welcome too.

Northumberland

As the darker nights draw in, it’s the perfect opportunity to do some star gazing and what better place than Northumberland. Around 572 square miles of the county boast Gold Tier status for dark skies. The International Dark Sky Park is also the largest in the UK.

Once night falls, you can expect to see thousands of stars, the Milky Way, and even the Andromeda Galaxy – which is 2.5 million light years away! If you are lucky, you may even get to the witness the Northern Lights too.

There’s plenty of dark sky events that you can sign up for and Northumberland is also home to charming B&Bs to make your stay even more special.
