While no car is built to take advantage of the superfast charging at the moment, it is expected that Porsche’s Taycan will be capable of using the charger to its full capacity, when it is released in 2019.
The charging points are three times faster than existing charging points and are said to add 150km to the range of a car battery in 5 minutes, or fully recharge latest models entirely in 10 minutes. Current electric vehicles will be able to use the ultra-fast chargers at a slower rate.
Shell are looking to implement these charging points at 80 European locations, 8 of which will be in the UK.
