The Astra GTC could lead the competitive hot hatch market after Vauxhall claimed the "standalone model" is specifically geared toward driver-oriented customers.
According to the firm, the GTC is set to "wow" UK customers and join the Renault Megane Coupe as a front runner in its class.
Vauxhall claims that unlike many three-door versions of existing models, the GTC was conceived to "resonate" with driving enthusiasts.
The firm said the target audience of the model is the driver who attaches as much importance to the way a car handles and performs as they do to the way it looks.
As such, the GTC boasts a bespoke platform including key components, such as front axle HiPerStruts from the 325PS Insignia VXR and significant upgrades to the unique Watt's link/compound crank rear end.
Gerry Baker, Vauxhall Engineering Centre's chief dynamicist, commented: "Our aim was to exceed the best in class with the GTC's dynamics.
"We also wanted to change the emphasis in steering and damper feel from the regular Astra Hatch to a set-up that was more focused, yet still comfortable enough for British roads and drivers."
