Vauxhall has unveiled a new supercharged version of the VXR8 GTS capable of producing 576 bhp with its 6.2-litre rear-wheel drive engine.
This marks a 150 bhp lift on the previous model and an increase of 140 lb ft of torque to 545 lb ft, while the exterior and interior have also been substantially enhanced.
The vehicle is based upon Vauxhall's sister company HSV's GEN-F GTS and represents the most powerful production car to ever come out of Australia.
What's more, with its price tag of £54,999, it represents the least expensive way to purchase a car with more than 500 bhp.
The supercharged LSA V8 engine provides a range of exciting features to complement its impressive performance, including a stand-alone water to air charge cooling system, a separate transmission and differential cooling system, water to oil engine cooling and a bi-modal air-intake.
In terms of design, the front end boasts new bold graphics and shallow ramp angles that allow the width and stance of the vehicle to stand out. The 'twin-nostril' grille represents a focus point, while the all-new fascia gives the car a fierce look.
On the inside, the cabin has had its dashboard overhauled and now features suede-style inserts, a new instrument cluster, gauges and door trims to ensure that the driver and passengers feel like they are getting the premium experience. What's more, the VXR8 gets VXR Performance Seats as standard, featuring heaters and electric adjustment.
Matching the quality of the performance and design is the technology, which includes Side Blind Zone Alert, Automatic Park Assist, Reversing Camera and Passive Entry/Push Button Start, as well as a number of other convenience and safety gadgets.
"The very fact that cars like the VXR8 GTS still exist proves that there is a small, but immensely passionate band of customers out there who want to drive something which is unique and special," said Stuart Harris, Vauxhall's head of carline brand.
"In its new GTS form the VXR8 offers colossal power and torque in a package that is more technology-led than ever before, yet still retains that unique VXR8-character that no BMW or Mercedes can match."
