Cinderella – Tues 29th Nov 2022 – Sun 15th Jan 2023
Featuring sets and costumes from the London Palladium, this pantomime production of Cinderella features a star-studded cast from the panto world including Danny Adams, Clive Webb, Chris Hayward, and Joe McElderry. Other cast members will include Britain’s Got Talent finalists Flawless, comedian Mick Potts and Oonagh Cox as Cinderella. If you enjoy a pantomime with some fairy tale flair, book your tickets now!
Cinderella – Relaxed Performance – Sun 11th Dec 2022 & Wed 11th Jan 2023
The Relaxed Performance of Cinderella is intended to make the pantomime accessible for all guests, whatever their needs. Welcoming those who may specifically benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere such as families and those with disabilities, the Cinderella Relaxed Performance aims to ensure that everyone gets to enjoy their theatre experience in a way that is considerate of them and their needs. This includes specially-altered lighting effects (removal of strobe effects in particular which may be unsettling for those with anxiety, autism, or other learning difficulties) and reduced sound effects.
Christmas at the Cathedral – Thurs 15th Dec 2022
It’s been three years, though the acclaimed Christmas at the Cathedral performance is back for the festive season, promising a night of joy and entertainment with celebrity appearances, music, comedy, and more. The show raises money for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and takes place at the iconic Newcastle Cathedral, with celebrity appearances kept secret until the big night for an element of surprise. Previous famous faces in the show have included Stephen Tompkinson, Tim Healy, Melanie Hill, Denise Welch, Jimmy Nail, Maximo Parks’ Paul Smith, and many more. The event is so popular in fact, that it’s already sold out!
The Shawshank Redemption – Tues 17th – Sat 21st Jan 2023
That’s right – you can see the blockbuster story of The Shawshank Redemption on stage in the theatre! A fantastic story of injustice, friendship, resilience and hope, The Shawshank Redemption film was based on the 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King. It follows the story of Andy Dufresne, who is wrongfully given a double life sentence in prison for the murder of his wife and her love, and his unlikely friendship with the prison fixer Red.
Pride & Prejudice* (*Sort of) – Mon 23rd – Sat 28th Jan 2023
Winner of the Laurence Olivier Best Comedy 2022 Award, Pride & Prejudice* (*Sort of) is a quirky, comedic adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice. Described as “Riotously funny...gloriously entertaining...frankly sensational” by Variety, the show features some pop classics you may recognise, such as Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, and You’re So Vain, whilst retelling a beloved classic with a daringly bold, amusing twist.
Scottish Ballet The Snow Queen – Wed 1st – Sat 4th Feb 2023
Based on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale, Scottish Ballet, The Snow Queen features music from Rimsky-Korsakov performed by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra. This wintry tale will enchant families and friends alike with a charming story about friendship and love, with a whole cast of vibrant, loveable characters. The show is choreographed by Christopher Hampson, with the design of award-winning Lez Brotherston, and returns to the stage at Newcastle Theatre Royal after a highly successful tour in 2019.
The Mousetrap – Mon 6th – Sat 11th Feb 2023
The classic murder-mystery tale from iconic crime writer Agatha Christie is also taking to the stage at Newcastle Theatre Royal this winter, promising thrilling suspense all around. Set around a murder in London, seven strangers become embroiled in a murder mystery whilst they are snowed in at a house in the countryside. A police sergeant soon arrives and they discover that the killer is among them - though which of them is responsible?
An Evening with Tim Rice: Circle of Words – Sun 12th Feb 2023
Perfect for any music fan, An Evening with Tim Rice offers a fascinating insight into the creation of some of the world’s best music with the internationally renowned lyricist himself. Having worked with several big names in the industry such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, Elton John, Alan Menken and more, Tim Rice has a wealth of experience in helping to make the dreams of artists a reality with some fantastic stories to share.
Mind Mangler – Thurs 16th – Sat 18th Feb 2023
Bringing something a little different to the theatre this winter is the magician-spoof show Mind Mangler. Starring Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer, the team behind the hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong, and the BBC series The Goes Wrong Show, this all-new comedy by Mischief promises a night of entertainment and serious amusement, described as an ‘absolute riot of a show’ by the British Theatre Guide.
Demon Dentist – Wed 22nd – Sat 25th Feb 2023
A hilariously exciting and entertaining children’s show, Demon Dentist comes from the West End producers of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny and Billionaire Boy. The story follows Alfie and Gabz as they investigate a curious case of children receiving odd things under their pillows after leaving their teeth for the tooth fairy. Little do they know the culprit is none other than the Demon Dentist whom they will soon discover!
Unexpected Twist – Tues 28th Feb – Sat 4th Mar 2023
Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist is brought to life on stage in a very unexpected twist as its name suggests, by the beloved children’s author Michael Rosen. Combining both Rosen’s adaptation and the classic, this all-new production follows a new-girl Shona in school as she and her class study the book Oliver Twist, though things soon take an interesting turn when she discovers the boys aren’t quite all they seem!
