As an international favourite, it’s so surprise that more than 10 million RAV4s have been sold worldwide across five generations of the model since 1994; in the UK the total has exceeded 228,000.
We’re incredibly excited for the new refresh... and here’s why you will be too:
Toyota has drawn on its world-leading hybrid technology expertise to produce an SUV that is not only more powerful, but which also outperforms all its rivals in terms of low emissions and fuel economy.
Its incredibly low emissions are actually superior to all the model’s segment competitors!
The all-new RAV4 Plug-in is capable of driving around as an authentic electric vehicle... in fact, EV running is its default mode - it can cover up to 61 miles of driving across your local town or city on a full battery charge! That’s definitely a lot more than the average person’s daily commute.
Even if your daily route sees more ‘challenging’ terrain and/or longer (higher average speed) stretches, the RAV4 still comfortable gives you 46 miles of pure electric driving – even reaching speeds of 84mph (where permitted) – with no intervention from the hybrid powertrain.
Nothing’s compromised with the all-new RAV4: the driver can even select from four different drive modes to suit the journey or personal preference.
These modes include an Auto Electric/Hybrid Vehicle (EV/HV) mode, which automatically switches the vehicle to HV operation for you when extra drive power is needed, bringing the 2.5-litre hybrid engine into play. This then switches back to EV operation when conditions allow.
To make it even more capable and confident, the new RAV4 also comes standard with AWD-i intelligent all-wheel drive. This means you can really look forward to weekend adventures exploring with the family or enjoy tackling ‘snow-days’ with ease.
Fully recharging the lithium-ion battery is simple and safe and can be done in just 2 and a half hours using a 230 V/32 A connection and a wallbox charging unit.
And in case you’re unfamiliar with ‘plug-in car life’, charging Type 2 cables for connection to a domestic power supply or wallbox are provided as standard with the new RAV4.
What’s more, owners of the latest RAV4 can also use the Toyota MyT app to schedule and monitor battery charging remotely and even conveniently operate the air conditioning system, to warm up or cool the cabin before setting off... perfect for making extremely hot or bitterly cold (more likely in this country!) days much more bearable.
Two high-specification versions of the new RAV4 Plug-in are available: Dynamic and Dynamic Premium.
You can visually tell them apart by their dark grille mesh and frame, dark-finish front and rear under-runs, a metallic lower front bumper moulding and model-specific 19-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheels.
Specific features on the RAV4 Dynamic version include dual-zone air conditioning with remote operation, nine-inch multimedia touchscreen, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power tailgate, wireless phone charger, heated front and outer rear seats and Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance systems.
The RAV4 Dynamic Premium grade further adds black leather seat upholstery, head-up display, opening Skyview panoramic roof, front seats with power adjustment and ventilation and a nine-speaker JBL premium sound system.
What we know so far, is that Toyota’s set on-the-road prices are from around 47,395 for the Dynamic and £50,895 for the Dynamic Premium.
For company car taxpayers, the benefit-in-kind rating for the RAV4 Plug-in Dynamic is from six per cent, giving a first year charge of £1,136 for a 40 per cent tax payer.
What’s not to love about the upcoming RAV4? We can’t wait to see it on a road near us soon.
