Bristol Street Motors backs Dunston Silver Band
Dunston Silver Band, which is sponsored by Bristol Street Motors in the North East, is already building on another successful year and hopes to reach new audiences in 2018.
In the coming year the band hopes to develop its youth band, which recently won the High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear Award, to its full size of 25 players, aged eight to 18. The band will also create opportunities for young players ready to progress into the senior band.
Last year the senior band was recognised in UK competitions, coming a credible fourth in the North of England Area regional contest and third at the Fife Brass Band Festival.
The 28-piece band from Gateshead also played a number of corporate bookings, community events and 27 concerts across the region last year, including Dunston Gala, Castletown Community Centre and Ovington Fete.
In a bid to strengthen its community contribution, the band will continue to play free concerts in public areas for example, a planned performance in Saltwell Park, and to engage with local community organisations.
Nick Harding, general manager, Bristol Street Motors Newcastle Vauxhall said: “It is important that community organisations like Dunston Silver Band receive the backing that they need and, as part of our company values and our belief in supporting within the communities we operate, we can provide the necessary support for the band’s efforts in promoting brass music to local young people.
“The band had an extremely strong 2017 and continued to play for loyal fans whilst reaching out to new audiences and making new additions to the band. I’m sure I can speak on behalf of everyone at Bristol Street Motors when I say that it’s an honour to support its ongoing success and the ability to bring the joy of music to many people.”
Keith Lee, Dunston Silver Band Committee Member and Trustee said: “Last year was another amazing year for Dunston Silver Band. The relaunch of our youth band has gone from strength to strength and young members eventually progressing onto the senior team will add much-needed growth and longevity to the band.
“We are, as always, very grateful to Bristol Street Motors in the North East for its on-going support, including marketing materials, rental fees for our rehearsal space, insurance, and part of our conductor's fees. The support means that we have less to worry about financially and can concentrate on forming new connections, promoting the band to new audiences and of course, making great music.”
