Bristol Street Motors Technicians Enjoy 'Full On' BTCC Experience

Two Bristol Street Motors technicians enjoyed the opportunity to gain first experience of the ‘full on’ nature of the working in the British Touring Car Championship when the 2024 season resumed at Croft.

David Mitchell, a Service and Maintenance Technician at Bristol Street Motors Halifax Nissan, was joined at the circuit by Caine Newsome, a Service and Diagnostic Technician from Bristol Street Motors Sunderland Vauxhall, became the latest colleagues to join the EXCELR8 Motorsport-run Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS squad to gain first-hand insight into Britain’s premier race series.

Over the course of a busy weekend at the Yorkshire circuit, the pair carried out a range of roles as Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS enjoyed a productive return to action following the summer break.

Tom Chilton scored his first race win in more than twelve months to ensure he has now scored more points in a season for Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS than ever before, whilst 2022 title winner Tom Ingram grabbed a pair of podium finishes at the wheel of his Hyundai i30 Fastback N.

Ingram has now finished inside the top four in the last ten races to lead the championship standings, having established a 21 buffer at the top going into the next event at the Knockhill circuit in Scotland.

Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS was also the highest-scoring team across the three races to take the Teams’ Trophy for the weekend, and has closed the gap to top spot in the standings as a result.

“It’s been a brilliant experience, and something I’d love to do again if I could,” David said.

“The whole thing has been so full on, and it’s amazing to see how many jobs people do over the course of the weekend – they all get involved in so much. I’ve been working on Ronan Pearson’s car and have helped with various things like set-up and suspension, as well as general maintenance and clean-up.

“I’ve always seen myself as someone who is quite organised but the big thing I can take away from this experience is how important organisation is. Within the team, you have to be prepared to deal with all eventualities that could come up on a race weekend, and I think a similar approach at work is the best way to be ready for anything that could come your way.”
