Members of the Bromley FC Community Trust enjoyed the opportunity to cheer on Team Bristol Street Motors at Brands Hatch as the British Touring Car Championship season drew to a close.

Stuart Green, Head of Coaching Development with the community arm of the EFL’s newest club, made the trip to the circuit alongside sons Connor and Brady as part of the initiative from Bristol Street Motors to bring together the worlds of football and motorsport, and offer an insight into a different sporting environment.

The award-winning automotive retailer backs both the EXCELR8-run race team in Britain’s premier racing series, as well as the Bristol Street Motors Trophy thanks to a high-profile partnership with the EFL.

Having gained promotion from the National League back in May thanks to a dramatic play-off win against Solihull Moors at Wembley, Bromley’s first foray into the Bristol Street Motors Trophy kicked off with a victory on penalties against League One side Cambridge United at Hayes Lane before a narrow loss at home to the Chelsea U21 side.

An away game at Charlton Athletic is to come next month as the Team bids to try and progress to the knock-out stages, and move a step closer to a Wembley return.

As part of their day at the races, Stuart, Connor and Brady were able to enjoy hospitality with Team Bristol Street Motors throughout race day at Brands Hatch as driver Tom Ingram did battle for a second championship title.

The trio were able to head out onto the grid to soak up the pre-race atmosphere, and were also treated to a tour of the Team Bristol Street Motors garage to take a close-up look at the race-winning Hyundai i30 Fastback N.

Ingram would score victory in one of the three races to end the campaign second in the standings.

“Being at Brands Hatch for the championship decider with Team Bristol Street Motors was a fantastic experience, even though the final result wasn’t what we hoped for,” Stuart said.

“As fans of racing, we have attended a number of events this season but the chance to get behind the scenes access and see more about what is involved in running the team was really interesting. In a way, it’s a bit like a football club where there are more people involved than you realise to make everything work.

“My son Connor wants to be a mechanic himself when he gets older, and the chance to see the team at work in the garage has only made him more determined than ever to achieve his dream in the future.”
