Burnley Extend Unbeaten Run After Early Wobble

Burnley are now eight games unbeaten in the EFL Championship after overcoming an early setback to secure a comeback victory on the road at Norwich City.

The Bristol Street Motors-backed side had slipped to fourth in the standings after Saturday’s league games but were aware that a win in Norfolk would see them overhaul Sunderland to reclaim third spot.

Things couldn’t have kicked off in worse fashion for Burnley when Norwich grabbed the lead after little over 60 seconds from the first corner of the game.

Marcelino Nunez sent in a cross from the right and Jose Cordoba rose highest to send a header beyond James Trafford and into the net.

Norwich could have gone two up when a pass-back from the half-way line from CJ Egan-Riley almost caught out Trafford, who was then called upon to make a fine save to deny Borja Sainz and the ‘keeper was again called into action after the break with a double save to deny Callum Doyle and then Sainz following a corner.

Burnley finally got on the scoresheet after 68 minutes and it was more than worth the wait as Zian Flemming levelled in stunning fashion.

A quick free-kick from Josh Cullen was played to Flemming 35 yards out and he let fly with a stunning drive that gave Angus Gunn in the Norwich goal no chance.

With the game opening up, Burnley saw a chance to steal the points and when a cross from the right from Hannibal was headed into his path, Josh Brownhill controlled the ball before lashing a shot across Gunn and into the net to put the Clarets ahead.

Norwich had a chance right at the death that was fired wide by Emiliano Marcondes but Burnley held on to grab the points and move back into third in the standings ahead of the final pre-Christmas game at home to Watford.
