BYD Celebrates Double Award Win at Best Car of The Year Awards

The Chinese EV manufacturer was named Best Company while the BYD Seal and Seal U DM-i were recognised as the Best Car Line-Up.

• BYD is a Chinese New Energy Vehicle (NEV) maker that is rapidly dominating the electric vehicle (EV) market.
• Launched in 1995, BYD has grown to become a major player in EV technology, working across four different industries. These are Auto, Electronics, New Energy, and Rail Transit.
• BYD was named Best Company at the Best Car of The Year Awards, while their Seal and Seal U DM-i models were named the Best Car Line-Up.

BYD, or Build Your Dreams, has taken the motoring world by storm. Using industry-leading battery technology, BYD has distinguished itself from other EV brands. Making electric motoring both more efficient and affordable.

They were already becoming the most popular EV maker, beating even the likes of Tesla. But now, their status has been formally established at the Best Car of The Year Awards.

‘Best Company of The Year’

The awards were decided by a panel of international judges. Ranging from design experts and engineers to influential automotive voices, the panel named BYD the Best Company of The Year.

The brand was recognised for its ambitious plans to expand across Europe, with BYD Europe’s headquarters in the Netherlands.

In 2023, BYD announced plans to build a UK retail network of 100 dealerships by the end of 2025. This comes alongside a goal to introduce several new models to expand the current range.

Mike Rutherford, founder of Best Cars of The Year and panel chairman, commented:

“BYD is just about the most daringly ambitious manufacturer on the planet right now. Apart from building a new car every few seconds, it’s establishing a network of plants in Europe and elsewhere to complement its existing Chinese factories.

I’ve never known a company so willing and able to take on and beat the world. And its Seal saloon and Seal SUV – effectively a range within a range – provide further evidence that if this Chinese firm isn’t yet a legitimate member of the premium car club, it soon might be.”

‘Best Car Line-Up of The Year’

In addition to taking the prestigious title of Best Company, BYD also won an award for two of its models. The BYD Seal – a fully-electric saloon, and the Seal U DM-i – the brand’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

Both models impressed the panel with their innovative, sustainable design and competitive prices. Peter Lyon, Best Car of The Year Tokyo Bureau Chief, commented:

“I voted for the Seal this time around. I particularly like the sedan version, not least because – at last – here’s a cool-looking EV salon that stands out from the ho-hum crowd. It’s a car that does not break the bank.”

The BYD Seal is a sleek, sporty car that perfectly combines performance with practicality. It offers up to 354 miles (WLTP) of range and can reach 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds.

Meanwhile, the BYD Seal U DM-i offers up to 671 miles (WLTP) combined range, with up to 50 miles (WLTP) in all-electric mode. Performance is still impressive, reaching 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, and it makes the perfect SUV for families.
