Dominant Burnley Forced To Settle For A Point

Burnley produced a dominant display in the most recent set of fixtures in the EFL Championship but were ultimately forced to settle for a point on the road at Oxford United.

The Clarets had grabbed a late win in the previous game against Portsmouth and headed for the Kassam Stadium looking for a similar result against another side that was promoted from League One over the summer.

There was perhaps little surprise in the fact that Burnley dominated possession from the start of the game as Scott Parker’s side looked to assert its authority on the game although it took until mid-way through the first half before home ‘keeper Jamie Cumming was called into meaningful action.

Lyle Foster fired wide of the post whilst  Andreas Hountondji also went close, but the game remained goalless at the break with Oxford having failed to trouble James Trafford in the visiting goal.

Elliot Moore’s header soon after the break was as close as Oxford would come as Burnley continued to create more of the chances.

Burnley were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Oxford United in the Championship at the Kassam Stadium.

Luca Koleosho forced Cumming into a smart save before Hannibal Mjebri fired just wide, whilst good work from Koleosho down the wing almost gave Jeremy Sarmiento to break the deadlock.

Despite having nearly 70 per cent of possession, Burnley were unable to find a way through and now sit fourth in the table ahead of the visit of Plymouth Argyle in the mid-week fixtures.
