From Cliques to Cars: 'Heathers' at Newcastle Theatre Royal

As a proud partner of Newcastle Theatre Royal, we took a trip to see 'Heathers' – based on the 1988 cult classic.

If you’ve seen the 1988 film starring Winona Ryder, Shannen Doherty, Kim Walker, and Lisanne Falk, the name Heather will be a familiar one.

The dark comedy takes place at Westerburg High – an American High School located in the fictional town Sherwood. It focuses on the popular, ruthless clique of three girls all sharing the first name Heather.

Heather Chandler is the 'queen bee', along with Heather Duke and Heather McNamara. Veronica Sawyer becomes part of this infamous group but soon comes to resent their cruelty and tires of them.

Veronica later becomes involved with new student Jason Dean, or J.D, who becomes her boyfriend sharing her hatred for the trio. Together, they find themselves embroiled in a war against the Heathers, which can only end badly. That’s all we’ll say!

Partnering with Newcastle Theatre Royal, we attended Heathers The Musical. With its colourful characters, we found ourselves wondering – which cars would these wicked kids drive or be represented by?

Heather Chandler – Nissan Qashqai
