The Hyundai i10 has taken home the What Car? Used Car award for best city car.

The small car beat some tough competition in this category from the Fiat 500, Toyota Aygo and Volkswagen Up! but it was the 2010 Hyundai i10 1.2-litre Comfort that triumphed.

Used Car of the Year judge Matthew Burrow said: "It's different from most cars in the city class in that it genuinely offers five seats. Admittedly, those in the rear wouldn't want to travel far, but it's nice to have that extra bit of practicality."

The Hyundai was also commended for reliability and safety. In the last two JD Power surveys the i10 has placed in the top three in its class for reliability and the winning model received four Euro NCAP stars for safety.

What Car? explained: "The i10 ticks all the right boxes. It's small enough to make urban driving a doddle while managing to shoehorn five seats and a useable boot into its tiny frame. That's a big plus when most cars in the class can only seat four."
