MG Revealed as This Month's Most Popular New Electric Car Brand

Recent data from Auto Trader shows MG is generating twice the share of new EV leads as its closest competitor.

MG was revealed as the most popular new EV brand in October, following recent Auto Trader data.

The data shows that one in five electric car enquiries came through to its platform, giving it a 21% majority. This was more than double the share of BMW (8.9%) and Nissan (5.2%).

What’s more, the top three most in-demand electric vehicles were all MG models. The MG4 was most popular with a 9.2% share of enquiries, followed by the MG5 at 5.5% and the MG ZS at 4.9%.

This raises the MG brand closer to leading EV makers, such as BYD – currently the leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs).

So, what is it about MG’s electric vehicle line-up that’s rousing so much interest? Let’s take a look at all three.

MG4 EV

The first fully electric hatchback from MG is available with two battery options. The 77kWh battery with the Trophy Extended Range offers up to 323 miles (WLTP) range.

Named Best Small Electric Car at the 2024 What Car? Awards, the MG4 offers a sleek, sporty design and generous technology. Standard features include a 10.25” colour touchscreen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to connect your smartphone.

There’s also MG’s iSMART user app, which allows you to monitor vehicle status and schedule charging. Plus, a host of driver assistance features for a smoother, safer drive. With the Trophy Long Range, you can travel in luxury with a heated steering wheel and front seats.

Exterior highlights include the Active Grille System which regulates airflow to optimise range. The Twin Aero Spoiler not only looks good, but also helps improve aerodynamics for enhanced performance.

Inside, the MG4 offers plenty of space for all passengers – with ample head and legroom thanks to its thin battery and longer wheelbase. Up to 363 litres of boot space at the rear is more than practical for any luggage. This can be increased to up to 1,177 litres depending on the trim.

With its compact yet spacious cabin, practical storage and innovative driving features, the MG4 has lots to offer. Charged from 15-80% in just 35 minutes using a 150kW ultra-fast charger, it’s also incredibly convenient.

MG5 EV

The MG5 is an electric estate car that offers sophisticated style and up to 250 miles (WLTP) range. Winner of several awards, it’s loved for its practical design and affordable price tag.

Inside, there’s the same 10.25” colour touchscreen and MG iSMART app as the MG4. However, the boot offers up to 578 litres of space for storing luggage, increased to 1,367 litres with rear seats folded.

The second row offers 60:40 split seating functionality, allowing you to make use of more storage when needed.

With heated seats and leather-style upholstery in the Trophy Long Range, the MG5 is big on comfort. Up to five adults can be seated comfortably inside the spacious cabin, with USB sockets to charge devices.

Vehicle-to-load charging is now also available with the MG5, allowing you to power other devices on-the-go. This makes the MG5 more versatile and productive – whether it’s powering up a TV on a camping trip or helping another EV in need.

On the outside, the MG5 looks the part with several modern features for subtle style. These include LED headlights and daytime running lights, silver roof rails and body-colour door mirrors. You can also choose from six attractive colours to reflect your taste. These are Arctic White, Black Pearl, Piccadilly Blue, Cosmic Silver, Hampstead Grey, and Dynamic Red.

Using a 100kW charger, the MG5 can be charged from 10-80% in around 35 minutes, making it another convenient EV option.

MG ZS EV

The MG ZS offers the perfect family SUV, with its spacious design and homely interior. It offers up to 273 miles (WLTP) range on a single charge, with a 72.6kWh battery.

Interior highlights include a 10.1” colour touchscreen as standard, wireless smartphone charging and the MG iSMART app. With the MG ZS Trophy trim, you can enjoy leather-style upholstery with contrast stitching. There are also heated front seats – both of which are adjustable for optimal comfort.

Connectivity is also well taken care of with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. With the Trophy trim, you can enjoy immersive acoustics with a six-speaker 3D-surround audio system.

Exterior touches include LED headlights, body colour door mirrors, and silver roof rails with the Trophy trim. Body colours include Arctic White, Battersea Blue, Black Pearl, Monument Silver and Dynamic Red.

Dedicated to everyday convenience, the MG ZS offers several handy features that make ownership a joy. From automatic air conditioning and remote central locking to keyless entry and more.

Boot space is also generous, with 448 litres available as standard. Need more? Just fold down the rear row of seats and enjoy up to 1,375 litres. Using a 50kWh public charging point, it can be charged from 10-80% in around 63 minutes.
