Motorists prefer spares to foam kits, survey shows
Consumer website Honest John has released the results of a survey of motorists carried out for Tyre Safety Month.
According to the website, spare tyres are a hot topic among drivers, with many opposed to the tyre foam kits that have replaced them on a number of new cars.
Honest John notes that a survey of 192 website visitors indicates that 30 per cent have a foam kit instead of a spare tyre, yet 91 per cent would prefer the latter.
On top of this, 86 per cent would rather have a spare tyre than their vehicle having lower carbon emissions.
Editor Daniel Harrison said: "While tyre foam kits can get a car to the nearest garage, our survey suggests that being stuck with a flat [tyre] and just a can of foam is a situation most motorists would like to avoid."
Tyre Safety Month is running this October. It is overseen by TyreSafe and backed by the Highways Agency.
