Nissan JUKE Welcomes Hybrid Powertrain to Model Line-Up

Nissan has revealed that its popular JUKE crossover will receive a hybrid powertrain this year, as the manufacturer continues to power ahead with its ambitious electrified strategy.

The model will deliver the same responsive performance with the added benefit of reduced emissions and fuel consumption.

Guillaume Cartier, Chairperson, Nissan AMIEO region said: "Nissan's electrified product strategy is gaining momentum and the JUKE Hybrid which will join the line-up later this year will represent another milestone on our strategic ambition to have a fully-electrified range by 2023.”

Rather than simply enhancing a traditional internal combustion engine with electric capabilities, the JUKE Hybrid will showcase a multi-modal powertrain. This helps to deliver key customer benefits:

- 100% electric start-up, every time

- Great drivability in all circumstances

- Excellent fuel efficiency – thanks to the smart multi-modal gearbox, regenerative braking and high-performance battery

The hybrid powertrain provides 25% more power than the current petrol engine option, with a fuel consumption reduction of up to 40% in urban cycle, and up to 20% in combined.

Electric Drive Style

The JUKE Hybrid has an intelligent drive system that governs the powertrain choice depending on a number of parameters. It has been designed to optimise the amount of time the JUKE spends in EV mode. Nissan engineers have been able to achieve up to 80% of an urban drive in all-electric mode.

The JUKE Hybrid can also operate as an EV through a dedicated electric mode. This can be switched on when the driver doesn’t want the engine to engage, for example in built-up areas or in queues and traffic jams.

Regenerative Braking

When the vehicle slows down, the electric motor will kick in to act as a generator to store electricity in the battery.

Drivers will be able to toggle through Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, which not only change the steering effort and accelerator pedal response, but also the regenerative braking behaviour and state of charge. In Sport mode, the regeneration is set to a high level when braking to maximise electric power for acceleration.

e-Pedal

The JUKE Hybrid will come equipped with Nissan’s innovative e-Pedal system, which has been successfully incorporated in the LEAF. When the foot is lifted from the accelerator, braking is applied to decelerate the vehicle. The e-Pedal function is especially useful in urban environments and helps to provide a smooth and relaxing driving experience, whilst maximising battery regeneration.

Modifications

The original model’s sporty looks have been maintained, with a few small tweaks in place to optimise aerodynamics and also identify its electrified powertrain.

The mesh grille has a smaller opening area, a smart gloss black strip and the new Nissan logo, in fitting with the rest of the electrified Nissan line-up.

The bodywork below the bumper has been modified to improve airflow, and the rear spoiler has been reprofiled for cleaner airflow.

New two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels will be introduced as well as ARIYA derived two-tone 19-inch aero wheels.

The boot offers 354 litres of storage space; a slight reduction of 68 litres compared to the petrol version, due to the placement of the 1.2kWh battery pack.
