Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER Awarded Best Powertrain at News UK Motor Awards 2024

The hybrid electric family SUV was recognised by news outlets including The Sunday Times, The Sun, and driving.co.uk.

The Nissan Qashqai continues to go from strength to strength, after being awarded Best Powertrain at the 2024 News UK Motor Awards.

It follows the mid-size SUV’s recent victory over the Kia Sportage in this year’s Auto Express Road Test. Read on to learn about this latest award.

‘Best Powertrain’

Not one, but three popular news outlets recognised the Nissan Qashqai’s innovative e-POWER technology. These included The Sunday Times, The Sun, and automotive site driving.co.uk.

The powertrain features a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, a 140kW electric motor, and a 1.8kWh battery. The engine is used to send energy to the electric motor, battery, or both depending on the driving mode.

This is done through an inverter and is what allows the Qashqai to be always electrically driven. Compared to other hybrids where the electric battery and combustion engine work in parallel, this makes it a real game-changer.

Driven by the electric motor, the Nissan Qashqai is ideal for those looking to experience an electric drive without making a full switch to an EV.

Continuing success

To win such a prestigious, stand-alone title reflects the Nissan Qashqai’s ongoing success in the market.

Since its initial launch in 2022, the e-POWER has sold over 140,000 models, with a driving experience that continues to be loved by motorists far and wide.

Commenting on the Qashqai’s popularity, The Sun’s Motors Editor, Rob Gill, said:

“We can’t get enough of them. Qashqai is the car that started it all and now the clever e-POWER system moves the game on even further.

“It has all the advantages of an electric car without the not-so-good bits like recharging with a plug. The petrol engine charges the battery and electric motor drives the wheels. We averaged 46mpg over 700 miles, which is mighty impressive for a family SUV, plus it’s designed, engineered and made in Britain.”

On the award, Managing Director of Nissan GB, Diana Torres, said:

‘‘We couldn’t be more thrilled that the new Qashqai, powered by Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, beats hybrid rivals in highly competitive class at the News UK Motor Awards 2024. It means a huge amount to be selected for recognition by some of the UK’s most popular publications and their motoring experts.

‘‘Nissan is proud to have created the crossover segment when it launched Qashqai in 2007. The cars on sale today are a far cry from those early models, of course, and the introduction of e-POWER technology in 2022 was a huge moment for Qashqai. It’s a car that’s incredibly important to all of us at Nissan and continues to be much-loved by our customers.’’
