Northallerton Event Rider Gets Support on her Road to Rio
An award-winning Darlington car dealership is supporting International event rider Nicola Wilson as she gears up for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Bristol Street Motors Nissan in McMullen Road is backing the local rider, who was born and bred in Northallerton, by providing her with an all-new British-built Nissan Qashqai.
Nicola, helped the eventing team claim a silver medal at the London 2012 games with her much-loved horse Opposition Buzz, will use the crossover model to travel to and from her daily training sessions and to competitions across the country.
Nicola said: "This sponsorship is massive for me and will have a major impact on my ambitions for the Rio Games.
I didn't have a car previously I used my husband's but it's going to make such a big difference knowing I don't have to worry about a car on a day-to-day basis and it will be lovely after a long days training or competing to get into a car that offers heated seats for those harsh winters days and air conditioning for the hot days, always traveling in comfort and style!
It's also fantastic to have a relationship like this with Nissan and Bristol Street Motors. It's really exciting."
With less than two years to go until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Nicola's attention is already focused on winning the ultimate prize and she is beginning to intensify her preparations.
"Rio is enormous for me. It's what drives me and keeps me going day in and day out and my ambition is to come home with another medal," added Nicola.
Peter Waugh, General Manager at Bristol Street Motors Nissan in Darlington, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be able to support Nicola on the road to Rio and I'm sure she will absolutely love her new Qashqai.
"It's a great source of pride for everyone at the dealership knowing that we are backing such a well known and successful equestrian athlete and are playing some part in helping her fulfil her sporting dreams as she works towards Rio.".
The partnership between the dealership and Nicola was formed through Nissan's role as the Official Automotive Partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB on the road to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. As part of this, Nissan has launched the #UniteAndExcite campaign which will provide fans with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to athletes' stories and news of how Nissan's innovative technology could improve performance.
