Renault Twingo E-Tech Prototype to Be Revealed At Paris Motor Show

The new compact EV revives the former classic with a 100% electric powertrain along with an updated look.

The Paris Motor Show, or Mondial de L’ Auto as it’s known on home soil, is France’s largest motor show. Held every other year, it alternates with the IAA Mobility show in Munich.

This year will mark the show’s 90th edition, and Renault will be taking to their stand with a range of their latest vehicles. Including the new Renault Twingo E-Tech prototype.

Sound familiar? Read on to find out how Renault is reviving a popular favourite.

The Renault Twingo

The Renault Twingo was a compact hatchback originally launched in 1993. It featured an unconventional design and an interior that defied expectations given its size.

It was originally available as a single version, with a single engine and four colours. Design highlights included a ‘frog face’, a 3.4m-long body, and a surprisingly spacious interior with a sliding and reclining rear bench seat.

A contraction of two popular dances – the twist and the tango – the name ‘Twingo’ was made to reflect its uniqueness. Drivers could choose from Ultramarine Blue, Indian Yellow, Coral Red, and Coriander Green. A sunroof was also available as an option in fabric or glass.

Loved for its quirky design, the Renault Twingo produced nearly 2.5 million units across several versions and limited series.

So, how is it making a comeback?

Electric and energetic

The Twingo E-Tech was announced in 2023 as part of Renault’s mission to make electric cars more accessible to all.

It features a 100% electric powertrain, expected to offer around 170 miles (WLTP) range. With an initial starting price of 20,000, it’s set to be one of the most affordable electric vehicles (EVs) available.

New design features include:

Signature lights

A nod to the original Twingo’s tail, a black rim around the rear windshield adds modern flair. Along with the protruding taillights and the playful Twingo lettering.

Expressive exterior

The headlamps are housed inside floating LED rings, inspired by the first generation. These bring not only the latest technology but a touch of character.

Glass roof

To lighten the spacious interior just like the Twingo of old, giving a feeling of air and openness.

Rounded door handles

Taken from the original model, these have been adapted with an illuminated rim adding stylish refinement.

Bonnet openings

The three small bonnet openings of the original Twingo have also been reclaimed, as a visual nod to its predecessor.
