Skoda ENYAQ iV Awarded Euro NCAP 5-Star Safety Rating
After undergoing a multitude of rigorous EURO NCAP crash and safety tests, the Skoda ENYAQ iV has been awarded an impressive solid five-star rating.
Skoda has a fantastic history of achieving high marks in past Euro NCAP reports, so it may come as no surprise to anyone that the SKODA ENYAQ iV has followed suit. Five-stars have previously been awarded to three of the brand’s 2019 models including the Octavia, the Kamiq and the Scala.
The Skoda ENYAQ iV is a practical SUV that combines style, comfort and performance and is perfect for urban and suburban living.
The ENYAQ iV is packed with state-of-the-art technology and comes well-equipped with active safety tech as standard.
The Euro NCAP
Just in case you’re unfamiliar, the European New Car Assessment Programme is an independent European car safety performance assessment programme.
The Euro NCAP has been designed to put a car through its paces, so that drivers can make an informed decision on selecting a vehicle that is safe for both themselves and their families, with assistance features that have been impartially tried and tested.
Concentrated on four key areas, the Euro NCAP report gathers an overall safety rating from a variety of crash and safety tests performed on the car in question. The 2021 Skoda ENYAQ iV withstood several crash scenarios – frontal, rear and side tests.
The new Skoda ENYAQ iV survived through crash testing, using linked-up dummies to provide impact readings, for analysis on both Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection respectively.
The Skoda ENYAQ iV also underwent Vulnerable Road User Safety tests, such as detecting and stopping for unexpected pedestrians and cyclists.
In addition, the Skoda ENYAQ iV’s Safety Assistance features were assessed, including Autobraking, Speed Assist and Lane Assist.
The Results:
Adult Occupant Protection
The 2021 Skoda ENYAQ iV scored the incredibly high mark of 94% during the Adult Occupant Protection tests.
When hit head on at speed, the passenger compartment remained stable and the dummy readings showed good protection for all critical body regions of the driver. The readings were similar of the passenger dummy, except for the left lower leg protection which proved to be adequate.
The Skoda showed that good protection would be provided to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes and to those in different sitting positions.
In NCAP’S side barrier and side pole tests, the ENYAQ iV provided good protection to all critical body regions and scored maximum points.
The 2021 Skoda ENYAQ iV is equipped with a central airbag, in which the Euro NCAP’s tests showed that it provided good protection of the head.
Additionally, tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
Child Occupant Protection
The new ENYAQ iV also performed well through the Child Occupant Protection tests, scoring a high 89%.
Both the frontal offset test and side barrier test demonstrated good protection to all critical body areas of both the 6- and 10-year-old dummies.
The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be fitted in that seating position if needed.
Vulnerable Road User Protection
It was found that the latest Skoda ENYAQ iV achieved very well in the Vulnerable Road User safety tests, gaining a respectable 71%.
In the unlikely event of a pedestrian coming into contact with the ENYAQ iV, the bonnet provided predominantly good protection to their head. The Skoda’s bumper provided good protection to pedestrian’s legs at all test locations.
The 2020 Skoda ENYAQ iV’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system detects vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. In NCAP’s tests, the systems response to such road users was adequately good, with collisions avoided in most cases.
Safety Assistance
The safety features included in the 2021 Skoda ENYAQ iV scored an impressive 82% and the NCAP testing looked at the following:
- Speed Assistance System
- Seatbelt Reminder
- Lane Assist
- Smart Brake Support
The ENYAQ iV has a speed assistance system that uses a camera in order to determine the local speed limit and the driver can choose to let the system to adjust the speed automatically.
The Skoda ENYAQ Iv includes a seatbelt reminder that is standard for all seating positions.
In addition to this, the AEB system performed well in tests of its response to other vehicles, with collisions avoided or mitigated in almost all scenarios.
