The EV Chargepoint Grant for Flat Owners and Renters: What to Expect

The EV Chargepoint Grant for Flat Owners and Renters: What to Expect

The Government recently closed its plug-in car grant after successfully reaching its goal of increasing EV sales in the UK.

If you own and live in a flat, or live in rented accommodation, you could be eligible for a Government grant to make it more affordable to charge your vehicle from home. The new grant, provided by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), came into effect on 4th August 2022.

The grant covers up to 75% of the cost to buy and install a chargepoint socket – up to the value of £350 per grant.

Can I apply?

You can apply to receive the grant if:

- You own and live in a flat, or rent any residential property

- Your flat or rental property has private off-street parking

- You own a qualifying vehicle

- You are moving to an eligible property that has a chargepoint you want to replace – however you must not have received the grant in the past, and you must meet all other eligibility criteria

You are not able to apply for the grant if:

- You have previously received the grant

- You are moving residence

- You want to move an existing chargepoint somewhere new

- You live in a house that you own

To comprehensively check the eligibility criteria and learn whether you qualify, simply contact your chosen OZEV installer.

Does my property qualify?

Your property must be in the UK to be eligible. Properties on the Channel Islands and Isle of Man are not included.

OZEV will check your address using your vehicle registration details, and your installer will come to assess the parking space to see if an electric vehicle can be safely charged there.

You must have:

- An off-street parking space

- Access to the parking space 24/7

- The sole legal right to the parking space

Does my vehicle qualify?

Your vehicle must be on the OZEV list of approved vehicles in order to qualify for the grant.

You will need to be able to provide evidence that you are the registered keeper; have one on order; have leased one for at least six months, or have used one as a work vehicle for at least six months.

EVs will play a key role in Government targets to reduce air pollution over the next few years – it is hoped this grant will go a long way to support this goal.
