SEAT has released details of its new Ibiza Cupra, which boasts an increase in power, an improved interior and new connectivity options.

The Ibiza's 1.8-litre TSI engine has been given a hike in power, with its existing 180bhp figure being increased to 192bhp. Torque output has also swelled, with SEAT giving the Ibiza an impressive 320Nm, which is a 70Nm increase over the previous model's 250Nm figure. This allows the Ibiza to sprint from 0-62mph in 6.7secs, and on to a top speed of 146mph.

The aggressive exterior styling hints at this exhilarating performance, with sharp lines and pronounced edges. The exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels also underline its speed, as does the matt-black diffuser and trapezoidal tailpipe.

It is within the cabin where change is also apparent. The leather steering wheel is new, along with redesigned air vents and instrument panel. The latest infotainment system is also fitted. The Cupra's front sports seats come with new upholstery, combining black fabric with light-grey inserts, while alcantara upholstery is an option.

There are also a pair of new apps available on the Ibiza Cupra. The DriveApp has been developed exclusively for users of SEAT Full Link and MirrorLink. It allows the vehicle's touchscreen to be personalised with local weather reports or contacts.

The ConnectApp represents the first step in a cooperation between SEAT and Samsung. One new function is a gesture control, enabling functions such as calls or contacts to be brought up on the media system touchscreen.

The pricing for the new Ibiza Cupra is yet to be announced, but will likely come nearer to the launch in January 2016.
