The ULEZ Car And Motorcycle Scrappage Scheme

The ULEZ Car And Motorcycle Scrappage Scheme

Low-income and disabled Londoners are set to benefit from the Government’s £2,000 ULEZ vehicle scrappage scheme.

In a bid to weed out more polluting cars and motorcycles in favour of cleaner vehicles and greener forms of transport, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has launched a new scrappage scheme for those eligible within the 32 London Boroughs or in the City of London.

For low income and/or disabled city-dwellers, this means you could possibly claim £2,000 to scrap your old car, or £1,000 to scrap a motorcycle or moped, when swapping to a vehicle with lower harmful emissions.

Cars that are high polluters account for about 50% of London's harmful air emissions, according to Sadiq Khan's office.

With the new scrappage scheme, the Government are making it clear that they’d like to help clean up the city’s toxic air.

The new scheme is only there, however, for those and their vehicles meeting the requirements set out by Transport for London (TfL).*

For example, existing vehicles will only be eligible for the scrappage scheme if they have been registered with the DVLA and have been owned for over a year prior to October 23, 2019.

Eligible vehicles must also not meet the ULEZ emissions standards. The money paid from the grant can go towards buying a vehicle that does.
