Top Safety Features of 2019 (so far!)

Driving anywhere is never without risk and when you have extremely precious cargo, safety becomes paramount when choosing a family car. Here is a little run down of some of the most sophiscated safety features available at present.

Pre-Collision Systems/Forward Collision Warning

This impressive tech scans the road ahead using a camera, radar or laser. If the distance between the vehicle you are in and the one in front is closing too rapidly, the system will alert the driver. While this particular system doesn’t brake automatically, it will get the driver’s attention by either visual or audible means, depending on the manufacturer. Catastrophe avoided!

Automatic Emergency Braking

This type of braking usually, but not always, works in conjunction with a pre-collision system. If the car feels like a collision is imminent, it will apply the brakes automatically. Nifty eh?

Adaptive Cruise Control

A fairly new development, adaptive cruise control sense a slower-moving vehicle ahead and the system will adjust your car’s speed to match it while keeping a safe distance, making road trips are even more of a doddle.

Blind Spot Detection

A feature that comes in very handy, particularly when driving on a multi-lane highway! No more craning your neck to check no one is cruising in your blind spot as the vehicle will tell you automatically. We are big fans of this!

Lane Departure Warning/Lane Keeping System

This safety feature pretty much does what it says on the tin! Should you start to drift, sensors or cameras located in the sideview mirror alert the driver so they can correct their position. If the vehicle has a lane keeping system, it will use the braking and stability systems to gently nudge the car back into its lane. Now that is some clever tech!

Rear-view Camera

Lots of new vehicles have rear-view cameras and they are great for total awareness of what’s going on behind your vehicle, plus it makes reverse parking so much easier! Winner.
