Vauxhall ADAM talks back with Siri
Vauxhall’s new ADAM supermini is the first car in its class to hold a conversation with its driver, using Apple’s well-known Siri voice recognition software. The ADAM, when fitted with Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system, allows drivers to communicate with the car through voice and to receive a voiced response. This means that drivers can give instructions without taking their eyes off the road at all.
By pressing a button mounted on the ADAM’s steering wheel, drivers with a compatible iPhone running the iOS 6 operating system can instruct the Siri Eyes Free system to carry out a varied range of tasks. This is said to be more than just voice activation; more a friend-to-friend conversation with instructions built in. This should make for some extra digital fun on long road trips!
With road safety at the forefront of this new technology, Apple and Vauxhall have taken hands-free functionality further by using Siri Eyes Free mode to understand and carry out instruction with only voice prompting, with the media screen not displaying the Siri text while using the feature in ADAM. There’s nothing to look at, basically, just chat, which is the least distracting of all in-car operations.
The Apple Siri system is available free of charge in all IntelliLink-equipped Vauxhall ADAMs, which can be purchased - ready to talk - from Vauxhall dealers today.
