Vauxhall Ampera applauded for its green strategy
The revolutionary Vauxhall Ampera has scooped the best green development prize at this year's Business Car Fleet Technology Awards.
Such a feat follows on from the Ampera being named as the European Car of the Year, What Car? Green Car of the Year and Top Gear Magazine's Green Car of the Year over the past few months.
What sets the Ampera apart from the majority of electric vehicles currently on sale is the fact that electricity powers the wheels of the vehicle at all times.
This alone allows the car to achieve between 25 and 50 miles of battery-powered electric drive while emitting zero tailpipe emissions.
On top of this feature, a separate 1.4-litre petrol-fuelled engine/generator runs at optimum efficiency and boosts the Ampera's range by up to 310 miles.
Paul Barker, the editor of Business Car, pointed out that "the Ampera is a genuine game-changer in terms of low-emission vehicles suitable for businesses" after his company's award ceremony.
