Vauxhall hits UK production milestones
A quarter of a million Astra Sports Tourers have been built at the UK’s Ellesmere Port plant.
Assembly of the model began at the site in 2010 and a celebration was held at the end of the production line to mark the milestone, with Vauxhall chairman and managing director Duncan Aldred saying the company is proud of the achievement in its 110th anniversary year.
More than 2.8 million Astras have been sold in the UK since it was introduced in 1980, including 30,000 so far this year.
And a day after the Sports Tourer landmark, Vauxhall was celebrating again as the Luton plant handed over its 900,000th Vivaro van, with 9,000 having been sold in the UK in 2013.
“Our hardworking and dedicated workforce at Luton and Ellesmere Port produce vehicles of exceptional quality so it is no surprise these UK-built models are so successful in the marketplace,” said Mr Aldred.
