Part Exchange FAQs
Why are some Part Exchange valuations lower than others?
The value of the part exchange depends on the current trade and retail prices. Our algorithm analyses over 500,000 vehicles to get an accurate valuation of your car.
Each valuation depends on the current market and can change rapidly, even during a single day. This may sometimes lead to a lower car valuation. With our data-driven approach, we can provide a fair and accurate valuation for all our customers.
How do you Part Exchange your car with a personalised registration?
Do you intend to keep your personalised number plate? If so, you must get in touch with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) to retain this plate and change the registration of your car. When you receive a new plate from DVLA, attach this to the car. The number plate of the vehicle must match the V5C form before you hand it over to us.
Can I Part Exchange if my car is worth more than the car I would like to purchase?
Yes, you can! As with any part exchange, we provide a valuation for your vehicle based on the current market. If you have any questions, get in touch with your local dealership.
If I return my Bristol Street Motors car, can I get my Part Exchange car back?
If your car is still with us, we can return it to you. We may have already sold your previous vehicle; in which case we offer a full refund of the part exchange value. All Bristol Street Motors cars come with a 14-day money-back guarantee for your peace of mind.
Can I put the value of my Part Exchange towards a finance scheme?
Yes, you can. This will automatically be put towards your finance deposit.
What happens to my Part Exchange vehicle?
Your old vehicle will undergo a preparation process and be sold to a new customer on our used car page. Depending on the condition of the car, sometimes it may be sent to a scrap yard or recycling.
Can you Part Exchange a broken car?
Yes, you can. We accept vehicles with broken parts as part exchange. However, as the car is likely to require new parts and repair work, the valuation of the car may be lower. Part exchanging your old car is a great way to upgrade to a newer model.
Can I Part Exchange a leased car?
No, as you are not the legal owner of the vehicle. When you are leasing a car, you are only renting it for a set period. After the contract has ended, you are required to return it.
Can you Part Exchange a car on PCP?
Yes, you can. However, a minimum of payments must be completed before this is possible. You should also always confirm with your current finance provider if this is possible. If you part exchange with us, we will take care of the paperwork for you.
The finance provider will provide you with a settlement figure, which will cover the remaining costs of the agreement. This will be reduced from the deposit you can put on your next car.
Is it better to Sell or Part Exchange my car?
If you are not in a hurry to find a new car immediately after selling your car, it might suit you. However, if you have already found your next car, the part exchange allows you to switch to the new car faster.
With a part exchange, you already have a new vehicle lined up. At Bristol Street Motors, you can find a vast range of new and used cars in stock, ready to come home with you.
Can I Part Exchange without an MOT?
Yes, this is possible. However, this may affect the valuation of your vehicle. This is because the current condition of the vehicle is unknown to the dealership. Plus, the next owner would be expected to pay the vehicle's next MOT.
Book an MOT for your car before the part exchange to make sure you get a good price.
