Why choosing the right tyres matter
Fitting your car with the correct tyres is a requirement by UK law and vital to your safety on the road. It’s important that you use the correct size and style of tyre for the type of vehicle you are driving. As well as making sure that they are inflated to the pressure recommended by Nissan.
Nissan offers tyres from leading manufacturers including Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pirelli and Continental. Plus fitting by Nissan-trained technicians who know your car best.
Check your tyres
It’s important to regularly check your tyres and there’s three quick ways you can do this yourself.
Check your tyre tread depth
Your tyres must have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm across the central ¾ of the tread around the entire circumference of the tyre. If your tyres don’t meet the legal limit, you could be fined up to £2,500 and receive three penalty points.
It’s recommended that you replace your tyres before they reach the legal limit for your safety and to avoid a fine.
Make sure your tyres are inflated to the correct pressure
It’s important to ensure that your tyres are correctly inflated. This not only maximises the grip and lifespan of your tyres. But it also reduces emissions and maximises fuel economy.
Your tyres can become worn with age and use, as well as being over or under inflated and driving over badly maintained roads. If your wheels are also out of alignment, this can lead to more rapid wear.
If you get a tyre pressure alert on your dashboard, it’s recommended to get them checked over as soon as possible.
Rotate your tyres
With regular tyre rotation, you can extend the lifespan of your tyres and minimise wear.
In an ideal world, when you replace your tyres you would replace all four at the same time. But as front and rear tyres wear at different speeds, this isn’t always the best option.
Nissan recommend fitting new rear tyres where possible and moving the older tyres to the front.
