Fiat's new saloon, previewed by the Aegea Project in May at the Istanbul Motor Show, is to be named the Fiat Tipo. The nomenclature harks back to classic Tipo's of the past, but is now intended to take Fiat firmly into the future.

The new car will be available with two MultiJet II turbo-diesels and two petrol engines. Power outputs range from 95hp to 120hp, and can be mated to either manual or automatic transmissions, engine dependent.

Measuring 4.5m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.48m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.64m and boot capacity of 510 litres, the Tipo can easily house five passengers and their luggage.

Inside, meanwhile, the new saloon is available with Fiat's latest technological features, such as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' touch-screen Uconnect infotainment system, housing hands-free Bluetooth calling and audio streaming; TomTom satellite navigation and a rear-parking camera.

Fiat have aimed to give the Tipo premium styling, featuring a balanced, resolved design and a high standard of build quality. Despite this, the new car will be part of Fiat's 'Functional Family'. This puts particular emphasis on value for money and practicality, as well as a straightforward model range and pricing structure.

Having been designed at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Centro Stile in Italy, and developed together with Tofas R&D, the Tipo will be manufactured in Turkey. It will retain the Aegea name in the Turkish market only.
